Sotheby’s New York kicks off its fall auction season with a sale led by a 27.35 carat diamond that’s expected to sell for up to $2.5 million.
The oval shaped D color, VS2 clarity diamond leads the auction house’s Important Jewels sale, which is coming up today, Thursday, September 22.
Lot 192 – A Magnificent Platinum and Diamond Ring. Pre-sale estimate $2,000,000-$2,500,000.

Lot 219 – A Sapphire and Diamond Ring by Bulgari. Pre-sale estimate $250,000-$350,000.
The auction will feature rare and historically important designs from renowned Art Nouveau designer René Lalique, who collaborated with actress Sarah Bernhardt to create two serpent-form jewels for her role as Empress Theodora. The ring is centered with the face of Medusa in greenish-blue glass, with blue and green enamel scales applied to the snake surrounding the face.Lot 151, An 18 Karat Gold, Molded Glass and Enamel Ring by René Lalique, circa 1900. Lot 191 – A Platinum, Moonstone, Lapis Lazuli and Diamond Necklace by Tiffany & Co., Designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Pre-sale estimate $20,000-$30,000.
The sale will also include vintage pieces from Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, as well as a trove of jewels by Bulgari from the 1960s and ‘70s and many more large white and colored diamonds and gemstones.
