Happy 2015! I took a little break over the holidays and it is nice to be back!
Color is our topic today, specifically “Marsala,” Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year, because it so influences fashion and jewelry. Marsala is a robust and earthy wine red.
“Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
She also noted that the hue “enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability.” I guess she really, really likes it.
To select the color of the year, Pantone looks at influences in entertainment, film and traveling art collections as well as among artists, at popular travel destinations and the socio-economic conditions.
Ultimately, Pantone says, its color of the year influences product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home and industrial design and in product packaging and graphic design.
Naturally, this all translates into jewelry………
Jacob & Co. platinum Harlequin rubellite and diamond drop earrings.
Mark Patterson rubellite and diamond earrings.
Yossi Harari Lilah ruby slice earrings.
Chopard rubellite and diamond ring.
Louis Vuitton ‘Voyage dans le temps’ Flashforward cuff plays with the idea of pixels. The red is gran feu enamel against a beautiful checker board effect of diamonds.
Irene Neuwirth one of a kind earrings with mixed rubies, Mexican fire opals and diamond pave.
I think I like the color, I am going to start looking for a few pieces to add to my wardrobe!
