Rockefeller Plaza was rocking yesterday as Christie’s kicked off its spring auction season with a bang. The New York Magnificent Jewel sale saw 77% sold by lot and by value, with 238 of its 310 lots finding new owners. The U.S. market remains strong with the sale bringing in $41.2 million.
The highest earner of the auction was this fancy intense purplish pink diamond selling for $5,765,000, or $1,090,000 per carat.
This rare natural colored pearl and diamond necklace sold for $5,093,000.
The demand for all things JAR remains very, very strong. These two pairs of earrings were hot commodities.
JAR emerald and diamond and colored diamond ear clips sold for $845,000.
JAR colored sapphire and diamond ear clips sold for $353,000, more than 7 times its high estimate.
The Millicent Rogers Heart Brooch by Paul Flato, circa 1938 went for $425,000.
