It is going to be another busy week. Last week I traveled to pick up daughter #3 from school. It was a fast turnaround and it all went like clockwork thanks to an organized daughter and her wonderful boyfriend. BTW, I rented a Jeep Compass and I really like that car. It was a perfect little SUV. This week daughter #1 is graduating and we have family in town. The following week I travel again to pick up daughter #2. This weekend I actually had to grocery shop! My husband and I are busy and have not been home much and our refrigerator kind of looked like a college student’s with very weird things in it. Let’s just say I threw out some containers that I am not sure what the contents were. It has actually been quite liberating not to have a fully stocked fridge.

Traditionally, sapphire symbolizes nobility, truth, sincerity, and faithfulness. It has decorated the robes of royalty and clergy members for centuries. Its extraordinary color is the standard against which other blue gems—from topaz to tanzanite—are measured. Rulers of ancient Persia believed the sky was painted blue by the reflection of sapphires. In some religions, the blue color of sapphires represented the heavens. In the 12th century, the sapphire gemstone was known as the most appropriate stone for ecclesiastical rings. The Sinhalese believed that the star sapphire served as protection and a guard against witchcraft. During the 18th century, sapphires were used to test female loyalty, changing color if the woman was unfaithful. Sapphires have long been used as talismans for protection, warding off diseases and to bring peace, happiness and superior intelligence.
Peridot is the birthstone for August and the 15th anniversary gemstone. Here are two very interesting facts about peridot. Some peridot is quite ancient, it has been found in pallasite meteorites, which are remnants of our solar system’s birth. It is estimated those stones are approximately 4.5 billion years old. In 2005, peridot was found in comet dust brought back from the Stardust robotic space probe. Yep, that is the truth.
