in Designer Spotlight on March 26, 2014
If you find yourself in NYC before April 5th, you might want to catch Victoire de Castellane’s ‘Precious Objets’ exhibition at the uptown Gagosian Gallery. The exhibition is her New York solo debut and is a showcase of independent works consisting of fine art sculptures with removable elements that may be worn as jewelry. The ‘animalvegetablemineral’ collection builds upon her previous ‘Fleurs d’exces’ collections. Prices range from $150,000 to $600,000. Pieces are available from both collections.
Victorie de Castellane is essentially a self taught designer. She designed jewelry for Chanel for fourteen years before joining Dior in 1998 as the first Creative Director of their new jewelry department, a role she continues to hold to this day.
She is indifferent to convention and her inspiration runs from pop culture (think Alice in Wonderland, the Brothers Grimm) to the visual excesses of Bollywood down to the depths of the subconscious. The ‘Fleurs d’exces’ collection interpreted the story of women under the influence of drugs. Quite a unique concept.
